Early last month, the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community took to social media hours after Manny Pacquiao said in a TV interview that people engaging in male-to-male or female-to-female sexual relations are worse than animals.
“It’s only common sense. Would you see any species of animals who engage in male to male, female to female [sexual] relations? Animals, then, are better than humans [in that sense]. They know how to distinguish males from females,” said Pacquiao in an analogy.
“If people then engage in male to male, female to female relations, then they are worse than animals,” he added.
Bradley believes that the statement could hurt the sales for the upcoming fight even though Pacquiao has already apologized for his statement which drew widespread outrage from the LGBT community.
“I think they’ll definitely hurt sales. There’s a community of gays and homosexuals who rooted for Manny Pacquiao before he said that,” Bradley said.
“A big advocate who used to support Manny Pacquiao before he said that was Magic Johnson. He went on to record to say, ‘I’ll never ever watch another Manny Pacquiao fight as long as he fights. Ever again.’ Ever again. This is Magic Johnson. This guy’s huge, has a lot of followers [2.9 million], and he’s tweeting this out,” he added.
Aside from the possible repercussions on the ticket and pay-per-view sales brought about by Pacquiao’s same sex-marriage statement, Bradley also resents what he calls Pacquiao’s inappropriate statements as he finds nothing wrong with gay people saying he has an uncle, friends and relatives who are gay.
Bradley is reportedly worried about a possible low turnout in sales because he expects an extra pay when the PPV sales hit a certain level which will entitle him to additional incentive.
The Pacquiao-Bradley fight will take place on April 9 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
