article imageOp-Ed: Why LeBron James should be among the NBA's greatest

By Zach Gilliland     Feb 12, 2014 in Sports
LeBron James thinks he will be among the four greatest NBA players of all-time. Read why he is correct and will be one of the best ever.
Miami Heat forward LeBron James made news this week when he compared himself to the greatest players in the history of the game.
According to, James stated I’m going to be one of the top four that’s ever played this game, for sure.”
This is certainly a bold statement, but there is a lot of truth to it. Looking at the numbers will show that James will be one of the game’s best ever.
James, now in his 11th year, has won four regular-season MVP’s. The only other players in NBA history that have four or more MVP’s are Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, and Wilt Chamberlain.
James is a 10-time All-Star, and he gets it done on both sides of the court. He won the NBA scoring title in 2007-08, and he is also a five-time member of the NBA All-Defensive Team.
He has 27.5 career points per game, which is behind only Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain.
When one thinks of the all-time greats a few names come to mind: Magic Johnson, Jordan, and Abdul-Jabbar. Some others that would obviously get snubbed are Julius Erving, Oscar Robertson, Wilt Chamberlain, Larry Bird, and Karl Malone.
When looking at an all-time great, one has to consider championships, scoring, and defense. James fits in two of those categories and is working on the championships. His biggest flaw that critics point to is the championships, but now that he has won two the chirps are getting quieter.
James could be considered one of the three greatest players of all-time when his career is over, alongside Jordan and Johnson. For James to seriously be put alongside those two he needs to win a couple of more championships and keep scoring at the pace he is now.
