Like Manny Pacquiao, Khan and Algieri are also known their speed and power and they are unafraid to mix it up in the ring, which makes their fight exciting and entertaining.
Algieri, who lost to Manny Pacquiao last November after being knocked down six times en route to a unanimous decision, has expressed interest in facing Khan for his next fight.
“I keep hearing my name mentioned with Khan’s – let’s do it. I want to get right back to the level where I feel I belong. The Pacquiao fight was not my night. It’s time for me to get back in with a high-level opponent and show the world the real Chris Algieri,” said Algieri, who had just welcomed John David Jackson into his camp as his trainer. Jackson also trains light-heavyweight Sergey Kovalev.
The potential match could be a better alternative for the most talked about Khan-Bronner fight insofar as Khan is concerned because he is perceived to be the better fighter between the two and he would have a good chance of beating Algieri.
If Khan beats Algieri, his longtime dream of facing either Mayweather or Pacquiao for a very lucrative fight, will remain alive.
In the case of Algieri, a win over Khan would be a career-boosting victory for him and it would spare him of a likely loss to Broner, who is viewed by fans as the better fighter.
“I love both fights actually,” said Algieri. “I’ve been in the gym working and I want to get back in the win column,” he added.
Broner was unbeaten when he lost to Marcos Maidana via a unanimous decision in December last year but he made three successful comeback fights, beating Carlos Molina, Emmanuel Taylor and John Molina, Jr.
