Gonzalez failed to score a knockout over Cuadras in a 12-round grueling fight as the Mexican WBC Super Flyweight champion fought gallantly throughout the fight.
After the fight, Gonzalez admitted that it was the most difficult fight of his career though he said he wasn’t hurt at any time during the fight. But at a glance during the post fight interview, severe swelling was evident on his eyes and face caused by legitimate punches by Cuadras.
“This was the most difficult fight of my career,” said Gonzalez after the fight. “He didn’t hurt me at anytime during the fight,” Gonzalez said.
Garcia, who was rooting for Cuadras, believes a rematch would be good as Gonzalez seemed to have struggled with his debut at the 115 pounds Super Flyweight limit.
“It was a good fight…I was going for Cuadras…I thought it was closer than what the judges scored…I think Chocolatito pulled it off…a rematch would be good…the way Chocolatito fights today, I think Inoue beats him,” said Garcia in a Fytehype video interview.
While he thought the judges scorecards leave much to be desired, Cuadras acknowledged Gonzalez’s relentless effort and good defense.
“Gonzalez is relentless. He never gets tired,” said Cuadras, who had said this week he thought Gonzalez was too small to beat him. “He goes all night long. I felt I did enough to win the fight. I hit him more tonight than he’s ever been hit, and he kept coming. His defense was better than I expected.” Cuadras said.
While Gonzalez earned a unanimous verdict from the judges, boxing fans expected a better performance from him being the reigning pound for pound king. It will do him good to solidify his hold on the P4P rating if he can accede to Crudras’ request for a rematch.
For his competitiveness and gallant performance against the reigning pound for pound king, Cuadras deserves a rematch for a one-time chance to regain his title
