Did you know the 1st Pan American Games were held in Buenos Aries, Argentina, in 1948, after World War II ended? The attack on Pearl Harbor had doomed the 1942 Pan Am Games scheduled to be held in the same city, Buenos Aires.
Participating Nations:
1. Forty-one countries will be participating in 2015 Pan Am Games. scheduled to be held from July 10–26, 2015, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This represents a drop of one from the 2011 Pan American Games, as the Netherlands Antilles Olympic Committee was dissolved in 2011.
2. The 2019 Pan Am Games is to be held from July 26 to August 11, 2019, in Lima, Perú. This will be the first time the Pan Am Games will be held in Peru.

3. The 2015 Pan American Games will become the first completely ecologically friendly games, because it will be fully carbon neutral.
4. The Athlete’s Village will be located in the West Don Lands along Front Street between Bayview Avenue and Cherry Street. It will have the capacity to hold 10,000 athletes and officials during the Pan Am and Para pan Am Games and after the games will be converted into housing.
5. A record of 45 percent of the 2015 Pan Am Games competitors are expected to be women, the most ever for any multi-sport event.
6. The total cost of the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto will be more than $2.5 billion, roughly a billion more than the budget for the event’s organizing committee.
7. On July 17, 2013, Pachi the Porcupine became the official 2015 Pan Am Games mascot. The mascot received over 33,000 votes from the nationwide vote. The winning design was submitted by four grade eight students at a school in Markham, Ontario.
8. In September 2013, it was reported that many senior members of the organizing committee, including then CEO Ian Troop, expensed Ontario taxpayers for things such as a cup of tea.

9. Just like the International Olympic Committee, the Pan American Sports Organization has its own flag. The flag has the four words, “América”, “Espírito”, “Sports” and “Fraternité”, each respectively in one of the four official languages of the organization, namely Spanish, Portuguese, English and French. The Olympic Rings were added to the flag in 1988.
