What Roach is witnessing could be a sign that Pacquiao’s killer instinct is back and it will manifest in its fullness when he comes face-to-face with Mayweather in the ring on May 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“We will make him to be as competitive as we would want him to be to achieve our target of winning by knockout,” Roach said. “I can see it in his eyes, in his body movement, his attitude in training that he really wants to win and win decisively. Sometimes, I cannot help but think he’s mad at this guy [Mayweather],.” Roach said.
Pacquiao could be agitated by what Roach said is a one-sided affair in favor of Mayweather including the control of tickets for the fight and and the “gag order” about the announcement of the fight, among others.
“Manny’s anger could be because everything has to be his (Mayweather’s) way. He has a comfort zone, like we couldn’t say anything about the fight until he announced it. He is very very insecure,” Roach added.
What is more agitating is Mayweather’s seemingly discriminatory treatment of Pacquiao’s camp as the B-Side of the the long-delayed fight talks.
In projecting his superiority over Pacquiao, the unbeaten American boxer concocted the “A-Side, B-Side” concept where he and his group constitute the A-Side while Pacquiao’s group belongs to the B-Side.
In order to get Mayweather to accept his challenge, Pacquiao relented and took the role of the B-Side if it was the only way to make the fight happen.
Now that Mayweather has nowhere to go but to face Pacquiao in the ring on fight night, Pacquiao gets even more agitated whenever he is reminded of the B-Side treatment that he and his camp are getting.
In the gym, Roach observed that Pacquiao is angry whenever he recalls the way his camp being treated like second class citizens as a result of having been called the B-Side.
Because of the anger and hate in his mind, Pacquiao could transform to his old fighting mode when he was knocking down just about anyone put in front of him no matter how big and strong they may be.
Pacquiao has admitted that he usually experiences transformation in the ring when he is in a fighting mode. He stated years ago that an unseen hand is evident when he is transformed like a fighting beast in the ring without him knowing it.
What Pacquiao is referring to in his recollection is his killer instinct which has not been seen by fans for many years.
As Roach said, Pacquiao remains civilized whenever he comes face-to-face with Mayweather but deep inside him he is angry with the way he and the camp have been treated.
Roach believes the the anger and hate that Pacquiao feels especially during sparring sessions will reignite his killer instinct and deliver Mayweather’s first career loss.
