article imageOp-Ed: Manny Pacquiao could recoup 2 titles with a win over Bradley

By Leo Reyes     Jan 24, 2014 in Sports
A win by Manny Pacquiao against Timothy Bradley in a rematch scheduled for April 12 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, could enable him to unseat Floyd Mayweather as the top pound-for-pound best fighter in the world.
Pacquiao once held the title of pound-for-pound king before losing it to Mayweather following his two straight losses in 2012.
Should Pacquiao win, his ranking could land in the top five which will qualify him to be included in the next rating review. Under the rule of The Ring rating board, anyone in the top five can take the No.1 post, subject to certain conditions.
A win over Bradley on April 12 could likewise led to the recovery of his former WBO welterweight belt which Bradley snatched from him in a highly controversial fashion last June 12.
At the moment, Pacquiao is rank No.7 in the pound-for-pound rating of The Ring while Mayweather is holding on to the top post.
Second in ranking is Andre Ward followed by Timothy Bradley, Wladimir Klitschko, Sergio Martinez and Juan Manuel Marquez. No.8 in the ranking is Canelo Alvarez while Carl Froch is at No.10'
The Ring Editorial Board compiles the ratings in collaboration with top boxing journalists around the world.
The Pacquiao-Bradley rematch could be very interesting mainly because of two important hurdles that each one will attempt to make in relation to their professional careers.
For Pacquiao, nothing will please him more than to become the first boxer to dethrone Bradley, who is undefeated in 32 professional fights. He will also obtain vindication for the controversial loss to Bradley due to the reported flawed scoring by the judges.
Secondly, a win by Pacquiao will open another opportunity for him to make enormous amount of money as more endorsements will be coming his way again.
For Bradley, who is coming off a split decision victory over former Pacquiao foe Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico last October 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, he has to duplicate his win over Pacquiao in order to remain unbeaten. Read more:
