Op-Ed: Fight fans may have been misled about Mayweather-Pacquiao talks

Mayweather and his camp may have already confirmed the final copy of the contract and they were just waiting for Pacquiao to come to the US to sign his copy.

Pacquiao flew to the US way ahead of his engagement as one of the judges in the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant which wll be held on January 25 in Florida.

Also had to be in the US before his trip to England to honor the invitation of Prince Harry for a dinner date with Pacquiao and wife Jinkee.

These events could have been concocted by promoters to hype the long-delayed super fight and to keep fight fans on their toes. The promoters know that they only have limited time to promote the fight owing to the dillydallying of the unbeaten champ.

The truth could be that the fight contract has been signed when Pacquiao arrived in the US and during his private meeting with his promoter Bob Arum.

All the claims and counterclaims by the negotiating parties are nothing else but a media blitzes designed to keep the public focused on what seems to be the richest fight in boxing history.

Pacquiao gave Mayweather until January 31 to sign the contract or he will move on and find another ring partner for his June fight.

The truth could be that Pacquiao will return to Manila with a signed contract and go back to the US immediately to give way for Mayweather’s trash talks to promote the fight in the scheduled press tour.

Hopefully this information (true or imagined) could keep passionate fight fans’ hope of seeing these two great fighters in the ring in a duel that have long wanted to see.
