article imageNY Giants News and Rumors: Top defensive line options for 2014

By Larry Seely     Jan 14, 2014 in Sports
New York - 2013 was a disastrous year for the NY Giants as injuries, inconsistent play on both sides of the ball, and turnovers played a big role in their disappointing season, but help could be coming soon with the upcoming NFL Draft and free agent signing period.
One area that must be fixed is the defensive line. This unit played poorly this past football season, ranking near the bottom of the league in sacks, but also having trouble stopping the run, especially against teams with a strong rushing attack.
Bleacher Report writer Kevin Boilard has written that keeping free agent Justin Tuck is necessary. Tuck had 11 sacks and over 60 tackles this past season and one of the few NY giants defenders who had a good year.
Walterfootball has released their latest mock draft and have the front office taking Florida State defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan with the top pick. Jernigan is tough against the run and a player that can anchor the middle of the line, something this team lacked in 2013 and will need to address if they want to be playoff contenders next season.
Louis Nix is another option in the first round. The Notre Dame youngster is massive and would be a great fit in the middle for New York, but he is built more for a 3-4 defense and that could be a decision the front office will need to make when they take the clock later in the year.
