article imageNonito Donaire will make Pacquiao-Vargas fight easier to sell

Boxing fans who are undecided about watching the upcoming fight between Manny Pacquiao and Jessie Vargas will be happy to know that five-division world champion Nonito Donaire would be in the main supporting cast of the Pacquiao-Vargas fight.
While Donaire's promoter Bob Arum has yet to confirm and announce the full supporting bouts for the Pacquiao-Vargas showdown scheduled for Nov. 5 at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, Donaire's wife Rachel told Ronnie Nathanielsz of The Standard/Philboxing that "fighting on a Pacquiao card has always been something he has wanted to do because it will give him (Nonito) a chance to show his support for what Manny has done to open the door for Filipinos.”
The Pacquiao-Vargas supporting cast has yet to be finalized but Arum has set a press conference on Sept. 8 at the Beverly Hills Hotel in California to make the official announcement of the Nov. 5 fight card and to kick off a three-day promotional tour in the key cities of the U.S.
Donaire's next foe hasn't been officially confirmed but it appears that he is headed to face mandatory challenger Jessie Magdaleno, who is unbeaten in 23 professional fights.
"We have the mandatory which is Jessie Magdaleno and whatever it is, whatever opportunity is out there, I've always been the type to be willing to fight anybody that they give me," said Donaire on Boxing Scene.
Arum's choice of Donaire to head the supporting card for the Pacquiao-Vargas fight is a wise move for the veteran promoter. He knows the Pacquiao-Vargas fight will hardly appeal to the fans because of the notion that Vargas is not a competitive opponent for Pacquiao based on their track records.
Donaire has pretty large fan base and is an exciting and entertaining fighter to watch while Magdaleno, who is a promising title contender, has the usual support from the Mexican-American community.
Meanwhile, Arum has yet to announce the result of his talks with Showtime and ESPN on the fight coverage of the event. HBO, which has been covering Pacquiao fights for many years has reportedly junked the Pacquiao-Vargas fight in favor of a bigger event which is the Ward-Kovalev flight.
