Four-weight world titlist and WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire is seeking one more belt this year if he is successful in defending his current title against challenger Zsolt Bedak of Hungary.
Donaire, who hails from Talibon, Bohol, Philippines is putting his title on the line against Bedak on April 23 in front of his home fans at the Cebu City Sports Complex, Cebu City, Philippines.
Popularly known as "The Filipino Flash" because of his speed and punching power, Donaire is now on his way to winning four successive fights if he is successful in defending his title against Bedak.
Donaire is coming off a unanimous decision win against Cesar Juarez of Mexico last year in a highly entertaining fight that took place at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Aside from Guillermo Rigondeaux, who snatched his WBO and Ring super bantamweight titles in a boring fight that took place at the Radio City Music Hall, New York City in 2013, Donaire is also targeting Carl Frampton for his next fight.
“There are a lot of good fights in this weight class. We got Rigondeaux, Quigg, Frampton, Ruiz, said Donaire, who is now doingf sparring sessions for his upcoming fight.
“We have a lot of guys in this division that will make it a fun fight to watch," he said.
“We might just fight a guy who is holding a title, it could be Frampton, or anybody who’s fighting for a title or who’s holding a title, as well as Rigondeaux because he’s the number one in the division and we’re always trying to be number one,” he added.
For his fight against Bedak, Donaire said the Hungarian fighter has a pretty decent power and speed but is more of a technical fighter who prefers to win on points.
Donaire assures his fans he would be 100 percent ready for the fight on April 23.
