Nonito Donaire talks about moving up again to 126 pounds

While his promoter is still working on the details of his next fight, Donaire is now looking forward to another title fight against rising young featherweight titlist Oscar Valdez, who is the current WBO Featherweight champion.

Valdez is unbeaten in 20 fights since turning pro in 2012 and is coming off a TKO win against Matias Rueda on July 23 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada.

“I definitely want to go back to 126 when I get done with 122. Valdez is an amazing fighter. He’s a freaking hungry lion and a champion and an amazing person first and foremost. He’s an amazing champion and that is definitely something to look forward to,” Donaire told BoxingScene.com.

The 25-year-old fighter from Nogales, Sonora, Mexico is a knockout artist having disposed 18 out of his 20 opponents via KO.

Donaire is amazed at the young Mexican fighter and looks forward to a fast-paced fight at 126 pounds with his WBO featherweight title at stake.

But first, Donaire needs to get past Magdaleno, who is likewise a tough young fighter and unbeaten in 23 pro fights with 17 of those bouts going via KO.

“We have the mandatory which is Jessie Magdaleno and whatever it is, whatever opportunity is out there, I’ve always been the type to be willing to fight anybody that they give me,” said Donaire on Boxing Scene.

Before his impressive TKO win over Zsolt Bedak in April, Donaire said he would go for another title fight. But his possible targets who are current world titlists have their own fights coming up, as Digital Journal previously covered.

Donaire is fresh off a TKO win against Zsolt Bedak of Hungary last April in Cebu City, Philippines. He has won four straight fights since losing to Nicholas Walters in 2014.
