article imageNHL Trade Rumors: Leafs looking to deal James Reimer to Edmonton?

By Larry Seely     Apr 16, 2014 in Sports
Edmonton - The late season collapse of the Toronto Maple Leafs has led to speculation of possible changes before the start of the 2014-15 NHL season, both on and off the ice.
James Reimer had a good year with the Leafs, but youngster Jonathan Bernier is clearly the number one net minder with the team and that has led to rumors of a possible trade and the Edmonton Oilers are one franchise that could use some help between the pipes.
The Toronto Sun has reported the team could look to move the restricted free agent this summer and after a 26-19-7 record this past hockey season, his value has never been higher.
Reimer is just 25-year-old and has played some terrific hockey, but the lack of defense on the Maple Leafs cost them a shot at the Stanley Cup. A deal could land them some young talent on the back line or a scoring center, both of which are needs heading into the off-season.
Edmonton is looking for help in the net and with little hope of landing a top notch defender in the upcoming NHL Draft, dealing for a goalie they can build around is the next best option and a deal that could help both franchises move forward next season.
