article imageNHL Trade Rumors: Justin Peters to Edmonton Oilers?

By Larry Seely     Dec 16, 2013 in Sports
Edmonton - The Carolina Hurricanes are one of the few NHL teams with plenty of depth at goalie and now it appears they are looking to deal one of their net minders to get some help on the front line.
Bruce Garrioch of The Ottawa Sun has reported that Carolina General Manager Jim Rutherford is making calls to see if any teams are interested in net minder Justin Peters, but with so many good goalies now on the market, it could be tough finding a trade partner, but one team that could have interest is Edmonton.
The Oilers have a great group of young players, but are having trouble on defense and in the net. It's no secret the front office for the team is looking for help and Peters could be the answer to their problem.
At 27 years of age, Peters is young enough to build the team around, but has enough experience to help the young squad in their quest to make the NHL Playoffs. With just 22 wins as a backup, it might seem like a reach, but a closer look at his career 2.98 goals against average shows the ability is there if given the chance.
Edmonton is in a situation where they must act quickly if they want to move up the ladder in the Western Conference, but this potential trade would also help the club down the road, making this a good move for the organization and its fans as they try to get back as an elite team in the league.
