NHL stars of week: Jamie Benn, Jannik Hansen, Tomas Tatar

By Marcus Hondro     Nov 24, 2014 in Sports
The National Hockey League named its three stars of the week on ending Nov. 23 on Monday and two of the players players aren't big stars. Jamie Benn is a star, okay, but not Jannik Hansen and Tomas Tatar.
The Great Dane, Hansen, right-winger for the Vancouver Canucks, was the week's unlikely first star. Prior to last week Hansen was playing well but not standing out and he is known more for being a fourth liner. Not last week. Capping his week off last night with his first ever NHL hat trick, Hansen scored 5 goals in three games last week, scoring in each of those games.
While still on the fourth line, Hansen, 28, scored in a 5-4 win over the Edmonton Oilers, a 4-3 shootout loss against the Anaheim Ducks, and last night's 4-1 over the Chicago Blackhawks. He has eight goals now on the season. Each of Hansen's three goals against Chicago were assisted by the Canucks' 19-year-old rookie, Bo Horvat, Horvat's first three assists in the NHL.
Meanwhile, the league's second star of the week, Tomas Tatar scored four goals in the week and added an assist as his Detroit Red Wings won two of three games. Tatar, 23, who got the winning goals in both those wins, now has nine on the season and has a current 5 game points scoring streak going, the longest point scoring streak he's managed in the league.
The NHL's third star of the week, Jamie Benn of the Dallas Stars, also helped his club get two wins out of three games. Benn had more points, six (3-3) than anyone else in the NHL last week. The 25-year-old native of Victoria is 8-11-19 on the season.
