The Jets weren’t on anyone’s radar to start the season, despite having some of the best young talent in the league. The play at goalie was expected to hurt this franchise, but a quick 2-0 start on the road and nine goals scored could just make this the team to watch in the Central Division.
Another team that was expected to challenge for last place and not first in the Pacific Division was Arizona, but the Coyotes came out strong with wins over Pittsburgh and Los Angles, allowing just one goal in each game. This team could use some good news after the overhaul of their roster, but chemistry and momentum play a big role in sports and that could be just what this franchise needs to keep things rolling.
The first team in the NHL to reach three wins are the NY Rangers and with two of those victories on the road, this team is on top of the power rankings through the first week of play. New York has 12 goals on the year and with a big win over Chicago and such a strong start to the 2015-16 season, this is one franchise that could carry this beginning through the entire season.
Many hockey experts predicted big things for the Kings, but its been a bad start for the veteran group. Losses to division rivals San Jose and Arizona is just the start as the franchise is struggling off the ice as well. The good news is the season is still young and with plenty of experience on hand, things could change quickly in Southern California.
Toronto is another strong hockey city, but the Maple Leafs have started the rebuilding process and it shows on the ice. With just five goals through their first three games, the ‘Leafs are one franchise that doesn’t have high expectations this year.
