His addition to the front line should give the team a bit more scoring power next season, but he’s not the only addition that has fans excited about the upcoming hockey season.
The team went out and signed goalie Frederik Andersen, a move that should bring some stability in the net and hopefully a better chance of making the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Management has also done a solid job in keeping some restricted free agents from leaving, most notably defender Martin Marincin, who just signed for the next two years, his speed on the ice helps on the power play, providing the team a solid scoring threat when holding a man advantage.
With all the news and signings, one position that still needs help is a backup to Andersen in the net. Plenty of speculation has hit social media over the last couple of weeks and hockey experts believe Jhonas Enroth was the main target, but despite conversation between the two sides, no deal has been announced and the longer it takes to come together, the more it appears it just won’t happen.
Anthony Fusco has reported that Toronto could go in a different direction by adding 26-year-old Anders Lindback. The 6’6″ net minder has played for five different NHL clubs in his six years in the league. Last season with Arizona, the former seventh round draft pick played 16 games for the Coyotes, compiling a 5-7-1 record and a 3.11 goals against average, not exactly stellar numbers, but he is just two years removed from a solid 2.76 average playing for a poor Buffalo Sabres team.
Another plus is salary as Toronto doesn’t have much in cap space left to add depth, but Lindback could likely be added for under $1 million per season, making him a good fit for a Maple Leafs team that doesn’t have many options this late into the summer.
