NFL Trade Rumors: Phillip Rivers to Miami Dolphins?

Trade rumors aren’t big in football, but more and more deals are taking place as teams look to fill needs or gather more draft choices. Miami is one such franchise as the Dolphins continue to struggle at quarterback, leading to speculation that they will look outside the organization for help.

Daniel Farias of SB Nation has reported that San Diego will look to rebuild after their poor start and it could begin by trading veteran signal caller Phillip Rivers.

The 34-year-old is still one of the best leaders in football and the face of the Chargers, but if the front office is set on starting fresh, they could deal the QB for a good young player and possible two or three draft choices.

Miami has already been linked to Jay Cutler of the Chicago Bears, another veteran likely done with his current team and a good short-term solution for a franchise looking for help now. Cutler is more of a risk, not only with his style of play, but also his health, but Rivers availability could change what the Dolphins look for in replacing starter Ryan Tannehill.

The biggest issue with Tannehill is decision making as the former Texas A&M star didn’t learn the ropes for a veteran and it shows. He holds the ball too long in the pocket and still makes simple mistakes. His play this season has led to criticism from fans and the media and with another losing season a strong possibility in south beach, changes could be coming.

It will be interesting to see if this plays out as Rivers is a fiery type player that has no problems telling others what they’re doing wrong. A move to Miami, along with a good set of young wide receivers could be a good move for his career, especially with the on and off field issues with the Chargers.
