The offensive line has been a concern for the Dolphins as they have failed to open holes for the running game and allowed another five sacks against Cincinnati, but it all can’t be blamed on the line. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill still doesn’t know when to move in the pocket and continues to make bad throws when under any kind of pressure.
15 for 25 for 189 yards and one touchdown aren’t the kind of stats that win games. With most of those yards coming on an early 74 yard scoring strike to Kenny Stills, that means the offense only managed 115 yards in 3+ quarters of play. Those kind of numbers puts too much pressure on the defense and it shows late in games.
Tannehill came into the NFL with little experience as a signal caller, beginning his career at Texas A&M as a wide receiver, but his athleticism and football smarts made it an easy transition. Since joining Miami, Tannehill has teased fans and coaches with his play, looking like an All Pro one week, but a rookie the next and after four games into his fifth season in the league, this franchise needs more.
Several experts are beginning to see issues. Despite the confidence showed by head coach Adam Gase, it looks like the only way up is a change behind center. With a good group of young quarterbacks entering the league in 2017, it’s now possible to believe a change is coming.
DeShaun Watson from Clemson would be a great fit, not only from the logistics, but also his style of play. The young Tiger can use his feet to complement his arm and would add some spice and excitement to an offense that struggles much too often.
This franchise has made several moves over the last few years to compete with New England, but they have failed to capitalize on these additions and while not all the issues of the Miami Dolphins are quarterback related. It doesn’t help when the team leader makes so many mistakes and doesn’t seem to learn from his errors.
