NFL Power Rankings: Patriots on top, Eagles soared in week three

The Eagles went into this week’s game against Pittsburgh with rookie quarterback Carson Wentz and a defense that shined the first two games, but it was against Cleveland and Chicago, two struggling franchises. Philly came out firing on Sunday and proved they are for real with a dominating 34-3 victory over the Steelers, a game Wentz looked solid once again and that has moved this team into the top-5 in this week’s power rankings.

New England continues to impress, despite playing a third string rookie behind center and question marks concerning a young offensive line. The Patriots have controlled the ball on the ground and the defense has played terrific and after a 3-0 start to the season, the Pats’ sit on top of the rankings and look once again like they’ll take the AFC East division without much opposition.

Denver won the Super Bowl last season and started the year with mild expectations according to the experts, but the Broncos are 3-0 and playing good on both sides of the football. If youngster Trevor Siemian continues to develop, it will make it tough to defeat this team and a repeat performance like last year isn’t out of the question.

Minnesota was expected to have one of the best defenses in the NFL and it showed again on Sunday as they shut down Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers offense. Sam Bradford has been solid the last two weeks as the new starting quarterback and a 3-0 start that includes wins over two good squads and there’s a reason this football team is now third in the latest power rankings.

Baltimore is another franchise that struggled last year and turned it around quickly. The Ravens are led by veteran quarterback Joe Flacco and after coming back from a serious knee injury in 2015, his play, along with a resurgent defense, has this team 3-0 and fans around the league should take notice.
