article imageNFL Power Rankings: Cardinals on top after win over Dallas!

By Larry Seely     Nov 2, 2014 in Sports
Phoenix - The unofficial start to the second half of the 2014 NFL season is nearly complete and the Arizona Cardinals have taken over the top spot in the latest power rankings after a convincing 28-17 victory over Dallas on Sunday.
The Cardinals now sit at 7-1 on the year, the best overall record in the league and this team is winning with a solid defense and a very efficient offense, led by veteran quarterback Carson Palmer.
After starting the season 2-2, New England has won five straight football games, including a 43-21 route of Denver in week 9, jumping to the top of the AFC with a 7-2 mark and jumping into second in this weeks rankings.
The Patriots are clicking on offense as tight end Rob Gronkowski is now healthy, but the Pats are also playing some solid defense and should only get better over the last eight weeks of the year.
Detroit and Philadelphia are both 6-2 and playing some great football, but the Eagles will need some help from backup QB Mark Sanchez as starter Nick Foles was injured in the teams 31-21 victory over Houston and could be lost for several weeks, but the former NY Jets signal caller showed during the preseason he was capable of running the high-powered Eagles attack as they look to capture the NFC East title.
The Lions had their bye week and it couldn't have come at a better time. Calvin Johnson needed the extra rest and this team should come out firing over the second half and it will need to with several tough games over the next few weeks, including back-to-back road contests against Arizona and New England.
Despite their loss, Denver is 6-2 and still in control of the AFC West and fifth in the latest NFL power rankings. The Broncos will need to play better on the road as the team finishes the year with five games away from Mile High Stadium, but with Peyton Manning leading the way, this team should be a contender for another home field playoff game at seasons end.
