article imageNFL News: Injuries playing a big role in playoff picture

By Larry Seely     Dec 19, 2015 in Sports
This time of year is when NFL teams are looking to build some momentum heading into the playoffs, but injuries are playing a big role in football this year and for a team like Cincinnati, it likely has cost the Bengals a shot at playing in the Super Bowl.
Not only did Cincy' lose starting quarterback Andy Dalton for the rest of the regular season last week, the team will also be without starting tight end Tyler Eifert. These two players are key to the offense and with home field advantage still up for grabs, it looks like New England and Denver have the upper hand in the AFC.
The Broncos have their own issues with Peyton Manning still not participating in practice and running back C.J. Anderson questionable in week 15. The Broncos defense will continue as the teams strength heading into the final few games, but having their veteran signal caller back in the huddle could be just what this franchise needs to reach another title game.
New England had a scare earlier in the week when Tom Brady was listed as questionable, but the Patriots star quarterback is feeling much better in recent reports and will make the start this weekend against Tennessee, but it does appear he will be without wide receiver Julian Edelman again this weekend, not good news for a team that lost its best running back, LeGarrette Blount, for the rest of the 2015 NFL season after an injury last week.
Carolina is looking to keep its perfect record intact, but for the only team in football that runs more than passes, the loss of starting running back Jonathan Stewart to a foot injury, could put that record in jeopardy. The Panthers will rely a bit more on Cam Newton this weekend, but with the star QB having his best season, it could spell trouble for the NY Giants on Sunday.
