article imageNFL News: Eric Decker signs with NY Jets

By Larry Seely     Mar 13, 2014 in Sports
New York - The NY Jets got their man on Wednesday as wide receiver Eric Decker signed to join the team for the next five years. The 26-year-old was ranked as the top NFL free agent at his position.
The move helps the offense as it gives young quarterback Geno Smith a legitimate big play wide out. Last year the former third round draft pick had nearly 1,300 yards and 11 touchdowns and over the last three seasons, nearly 3,000 and 32 scores.
Now the big question, can the youngster keep those numbers without Peyton Manning throwing the football and the Jets without another big play receiver on the roster?
ESPN has reported that the front office could add another receiver in the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft. The team already has Stephen Hill and should improve dramatically over the group that finished 31st overall in the league last season.
Decker signed for $36.25 for the five years with $15 million guaranteed. That type of money will bring some added pressure to the former University of Minnesota star, but with a good head on his shoulders and the growth of Smith, this could be the start of something special in the Big Apple.
