article imageNFL News and Rumors: St Louis Rams set for return to Los Angeles?

By Larry Seely     Mar 24, 2014 in Sports
Los Angeles - The NFL wants a team in Los Angeles and it makes sense, as it has the second largest population of any city in the United States and a hub for media on the west coast. But which teams actually want to play in Southern California?
Rumors started earlier this year when St Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke bought a large parcel of land in the area. The LA Times broke the story and reported that a move back to Southern California is possible for the Rams.
The 60-acre block is big enough to hold a state of the art stadium and the surrounding area has plenty of parking, but it could also be that the billionaire was just looking to make an investment in real estate.
What makes the story interesting is Kroenke has yet to sign a new deal to stay in St Louis, in fact with the wording of the current contract, he could move his team in 2015. Why not back to a place that has a strong fan base already in place and would welcome the team back with open arms?
Another option for the NFL is another team that called LA home, the Oakland Raiders. The Silver and Black have had issues trying to build a new stadium in the Bay Area, especially now that the 49ers have a new home and the economy isn't ideal for funding a billion-dollar project.
Of course the other option is a new franchise, one that has no ties and could start fresh. A new stadium in Los Angeles would of course attract a Super Bowl every few years and bring a ton of money to the local economy, a win-win situation for the league and whatever owner jumps first at the chance to return football to sunny Southern California.
