article imageNFL News and Rumors: Colin Kaepernick to Minnesota Vikings?

By Larry Seely     Aug 30, 2016 in Sports
Minneapolis - The Minnesota Vikings won 11 games in 2015 and NFL experts had the team as one of the best in the NFC for this season, but an apparently serious leg injury to quarterback Teddy Bridgewater on Tuesday could be a huge blow to a franchise on the rise.
The team does have a veteran backup in Shaun Hill, who has played in four different cities in his career, including a similar situation in St. Louis where he took over for an injured Sam Bradford; but his lack of big-play capabilities had the undrafted quarterback back on the bench after just nine games — not exactly the leader this team needs if it wants to win the black and blue division again this year.
Luckily, several veterans appear to be on the trading block after last weekend's preseason contests. Denver has made it clear that Mark Sanchez isn't their starter. Rumors have already hit social media on his possible trade destinations, and with the injury in Minnesota, the Vikings would clearly need to be added to that list.
Another option, and possibly the best for the organization, is San Francisco 49ers disgruntled signal caller Colin Kaepernick. Despite an arm injury that has limited his play the last three weeks and some confidence issues after being benched last year, the 28-year-old has a better resumé just due to the fact he led 'Frisco' to the NFC Championship game a few years back.
The former second round pick out of Nevada is a duel-threat with his mobility. He is also solid in the pocket, which is evident in his sixty percent completion average during his career. Another plus is his ability to limit mistakes with just 26 interceptions in 57 career games in the NFL.
While no official work on Bridgewater and his status for the rest of the year will be known for a few hours, the reaction from players and the fact coaches shut down practice shows concern. Hill is a solid backup, but for the best result in 2016, the front office will need to add help and these two veterans could be the answer to keep this franchise moving forward until their young star returns.
