NFL News and Rumors: Brian Hartline to Buffalo Bills?

The opening week was awful as the offense couldn’t get anything going and last week the defense couldn’t stop the NY Jets, losing 37-31. Now the team is having trouble at wide receiver with two of their top four players hurting. But if recent reports are true, help could be coming soon.

Robert Molnar suggested on Yahoo Sports that the front office could add some help with Brian Hartline. The former Cleveland Browns possession receiver wasn’t signed after being released after last season, but the 29-year-old could come off the streets and give the team more depth over rest of the regular season.

The former fourth round pick had 46 receptions for over 500 yards last year and while not much of a scoring threat, he could be a good option in the slot for a team that has struggled to find play makers on the outside.

Buffalo was linked with the veteran last year, but nothing materialized and with Sammy Watkins and Marquise Goodwin both being troubled after just two games, it makes sense to bring in a player that can learn the offense quickly and make an immediate contribution.

Hartline isn’t the only player linked in reports, former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Riley Cooper is also considered an option. The 29-year-old had just 21 receptions last season, but had over 100 catches the previous two years and scored eight touchdowns in 2013.

Both of these players are just fill-ins for a team that has some injury concerns at the position, but both have experience and could be a short-term solution for the Bills as they look to rebound from a slow start and get back into the NFL playoff race.
