NFL Free Agent Rumors: Chris Johnson to Dallas Cowboys?

Jerry Jones signed free agent Darren McFadden from Oakland, but most football experts believe the injury prone back isn’t the answer and with little proven depth on the roster, rumors have now hit social media that Dallas is still looking for help.

The latest reports have Chris Johnson as a potential target and despite a decline in numbers over the last couple of seasons, the 29-year-old believes he still has enough speed and talent to help a contender.

Last year the former first round selection rushed for 663 yards for the NY Jets and his 4.3 yards per carry are indicative of what he still has left in the tank, but with just one touchdown scored, many football experts are left wondering if he still has the speed to break the long runs or the toughness to handle more carries than his 155 total in 2014.

Johnson was once one of the most feared running backs in the NFL with nearly 4,600 yards rushing and 34 touchdowns in his first three season with Tennessee, but his struggle to match those numbers have come with a decline in talent around the speedster and his ability to break free from initial contact at the line of scrimmage, but a move to the Cowboys would have the veteran playing behind the best young line in the game and that could help resurrect his career.

Another player that could end up in ‘Big D’ is former Baltimore Ravens duel-threat back Ray Rice. The 28-year-old is looking for a new team after a suspension cost him the entire 2014 season and with his kind of talent, signing with a contender could make him a household name with his playing ability and not his off field issues.

No matter what Dallas decides in the coming weeks, it does appear they will need some help at the position and these two veterans could be just what the doctor ordered, but both come with red flags and that makes it a tough decision for Jones as he looks to return his franchise to one of the best in the game.
