article imageNFL Fantasy Football: Week 5 running back rankings

By Larry Seely     Oct 5, 2015 in Sports
Despite all the passing going on in the NFL, it's good to see running backs making a resurgence. Not only is it good for the game, it also makes life a bit easier for fantasy football owners.
Devonta Freeman has set the league on fire with three touchdowns in each game over the last two weeks and while that kind of production is rare, it makes the Atlanta Falcons back a must-start player in week 5 against Washington. Freeman is not only scoring TDs, but he's become a solid dual-threat player with his passing catching ability.
Le'Veon Bell is among the best play makers in the game and his ability to make big plays anywhere on the field makes him a legitimate threat to score double-digit points in any given week. Pittsburgh will travel to San Diego for Monday night football and with the Chargers defense allowing over 125 yards rushing through four weeks, starting Bell this week is a must.
Jamaal Charles is yet to have a great game this season, but like the backs listed above, Charles can do everything and a breakout performance is close at hand. The week Kansas City plays Chicago and the Bears defense hasn't been great this year — in fact the team has struggled with consistency under new head coach John Fox — making Charles one of the top ranked players in fantasy football for week 5.
Finding help on the waiver wire is tough, especially for owners looking for help at running back, but there's a couple players that could provide some decent scoring opportunities for those who need help.
Ronnie Hillman shares duties in Denver, but the former San Diego State player is a solid pass-catching threat and has the ability to break a big run when given the chance. Hillman and the Broncos face Oakland and despite the Raiders starting the year 2-2, the defense has struggled at times and that could be the match up that helps an owner looking for help off the waiver wire.
