NFL Fantasy Football: Week 1 waiver wire options at each position

By Larry Seely     Sep 9, 2016 in Sports
Yes, the first game of the NFL season is in the books and it was a great start as Denver beat Carolina 21-20. But that doesn't mean fantasy football owners can't still make roster changes and for those owners with injury issues: time to do some research.
The biggest name that is questionable in week one is New England Patriots Rob Gronkowski and the fact he's not playing until Sunday night makes it tough to set a roster, but for those who have the games best pass catching tight end, there is help available on most waiver wires.
A couple names that could help this weekend are Jared Cook of Green Bay and Jesse James of Pittsburgh. Both will have their chances, especially with good quarterbacks throwing them the ball and its possible both could score a touchdown with favorable match ups. Both of these players are good short-term solutions for those who need help now and want to make sure they have the position filled kick off.
It now looks like Kansas City running back Jamaal Charles will miss at least this weeks contest. Backup Spencer Ware is available in most leagues and a good option for those who need depth this week. With a good match up against AFC West rival San Diego, look for the Chiefs to use the run more than normal and that lead to an 80+ yard performance and possibly a score on Sunday.
Fantasy football has changed significantly over the last decade and having a good group of wide receivers is a must. For those owners looking for help in week one, Chris Hogan of New England could be a good choice. Danny Amendola has battled a knee injury in camp and its likely the Patriots will need to pass a lot against Arizona Sunday night. Hogan has good hands and could see plenty of targets, especially if the Pats' go into the contest short-handed at the skilled positions, making him one of the best sleeper picks in the NFL this week.
