NFL Fantasy Football: Top ‘sleepers’ heading into regular season

No matter how you go about selecting players, knowing who could have a breakout season, can and will have a major impact on how your squad performs in 2016. With that being said, here are a few late round steals or ‘sleepers’ at each position that can help any owner can bragging rights or friends and colleagues.

Quarterback isn’t usually a position to gamble with, but having a solid backup could prove useful. Injuries and bye weeks can wreck havoc on teams, but having a solid bench can help. This year a number of youngsters could have big years, including Marcus Mariota of Tennessee. The Titans added some terrific weapons this off season and could be one of those franchises that has a run at the playoffs and with his duel-threat capabilities, the former Oregon Duck star is a great late round bargain.

The running back theory mentioned before is a gamble, but for those looking to try this strategy, you’ll need some help in the later rounds. Isaiah Crowell from the Cleveland Browns is a perfect example of a player that might not have great stats, but earns just enough points to make him worth taking. With Hue Jackson as the new head coach, this team will use the run to setup the pass and with just a ten percent increase in carries, Crowell could have a decent year.

Wide receivers are becoming the go-to position for fantasy football owners. With the NFL throwing the ball all over the field, having five wide outs on your roster isn’t a bad idea. For those looking for late round help, rookie Will Fuller of the Houston Texans could be the answer. His speed and quickness make him a solid weapon and during the preseason he seems to have a connection with new quarterback Brock Osweiler, so while other owners are digging for help from a veteran, grab this youngster as he will be a solid option on bye weeks.

Tight ends are all the rage and every owner would love to have a Rob Gronkowski, but with that not being possible, some owners wait until late to fill the position. Jared Cook of Green Bay is an excellent option and could have a career year now that he’s playing with a top-notch quarterback. The Packers utilize the passing game and with his combination of size and speed, Cook could have a monster year at Lambeau field.
