NFL Fantasy Football: Top quarterbacks for 2016 season

The passing game has transformed football and having that one signal caller that can provide consistent points each week is the first step in wining a league. Depth is also important and having a backup that can provide 15+ points when needed, is also imperative.

Here’s an early look at the quarterback rankings and a “sleeper” that could be around late in the draft, but is a perfect compliment to a fill out an owners roster and hopefully help in leading a team to a championship.

Cam Newton enters the year ranked as the top signal caller and for good reason. The former Auburn star had a terrific year in 2015, leading his Panthers to the Super Bowl. Newton is a duel-threat with the ability to score through the air or on the ground and with Kelvin Benjamin returning at wide receiver, it could be a special year for Carolina.

Veteran Aaron Rodgers suffered through a poor season last year with the Packers, mostly due to an inconsistent offensive line and the loss of wide receiver Jordy Nelson. Things should be much different in 2016, however — Rodgers has been a consistent point scorer in fantasy football during his career and with Nelson’s return, big numbers should once again be the norm.

For those waiting until the middle rounds to find a quarterback, Jacksonville youngster Blake Bortles is a solid option. The Jaguars have trouble running the ball, leading to more passing than normal and with a good group of young wide receivers, he should have little trouble becoming a top-10 player at his position.

“Sleepers” are those players that have a high risk/reward and should be taken in the later rounds, but with some luck, they could be big success. Robert Griffin has had success in the NFL, but he failed to play last year for Washington. Now with Cleveland and the likely starter, the former Baylor star could have a big season for the Browns and that could make him a valuable asset for those willing to take the quarterback late in their draft.
