article imageNFL Fantasy Football: Quarterback rankings, preseason edition

By Larry Seely     Aug 7, 2016 in Sports
With the NFL preseason schedule officially starting this weekend, most fantasy football owners will begin their research for the 2016 season in hopes of winning a league championship.
Knowing who to draft and when to take players is key to having a solid roster. Lat round steals and 'sleepers' are great, but without a reliable set of star players, winning becomes just a dream. Here's a look at the latest quarterback rankings and advice on what round to select your top signal caller.
Cam Newton leads the way heading into the season. The Carolina Panthers offensive leader had a terrific season last year, guiding his team into the Super Bowl. With more weapons to work with this football season, fans can expect another big year and that not only makes him a first round selection, many will take the former Auburn star first in their drafts.
Aaron Rodgers is ranked second at the position, despite having perhaps his worst year under center in his Pro Bowl career. With the return of Jordy Nelson and playing in a favorable division, owners can expect a better 2016 for the veteran. Fantasy football owners should take the Green Bay Packers quarterback early in round one, but for those drafting in the second and third spots in the opening round, it might be better to take a look at other options, perhaps the number one ranked wide receiver or running back would be a better pick at this stage of the draft.
Russell Wilson burst onto the scene with his arm last year. The young man had already guided his Seattle team to a Super Bowl, but the Seahawks did that with a solid running game and a terrific defense, but last year things changed. Wilson is also one of the most mobile quarterbacks in the NFL and with changes to the roster, he could have an even bigger statistical year, making him a sure-fire first round option.
For those looking for depth in the later rounds, Joe Flacco of Baltimore is a veteran to keep an eye on in the preseason. The Ravens struggled to score points without their leader last season and with a good group of wide receivers now in place, Flacco could be one of the best late round steals available and a player that could possible move into the starter on some rosters.
