The biggest news came from Green Bay with Jordy Nelson being lost for the year with a serious leg injury. That has opened the door for second-year wide out Davante Adams, who has now gone from a ‘sleeper’, to a legitimate number two wide receiver in most fantasy leagues.
Other injuries will play a major role in how owners draft, including Carolina losing young star Kelvin Benjamin for the season, but for every door that closes, other players will get their shot to make this a career year. The loss of these two wide receivers make it difficult to gauge what it effect it will have on the teams quarterbacks, but for fantasy owners, it does make the Packers and Panthers running backs a bit more attractive.
Arizona has struggled to find a running game in recent years, but that could change with the emergence of David Johnson. The rookie had a big game over the weekend, rushing for 66 yards against San Diego, making him a great late round pick for those owners looking for depth.
While the preseason usually means nothing, it has to be noted that Philadelphia looks in mid-season form on offense. The Eagles are scoring with ease and while DeMarco Murray will get his carries, look for fellow running back Ryan Mathews to see plenty of action and warrant a look for fantasy football owners with team leagues and points based on carries and receptions.
Taking a gamble on quarterbacks isn’t always a good option, but rookies Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston both looked like good in limited action. For those owners looking for a late round sleeper, it might be a gamble that pays off big, especially in the case of Winston as the youngster has plenty of weapons at his disposal.
