Veteran free agents are usually the top option for the Pats and several reports have the franchise looking for help in the trenches. With both lines needing depth, fans won’t get excited about possible moves, but winning football games start with having a solid foundation on both sides of the ball.
Dan Connolly served as a captain last year, but has become a free agent. The offensive lineman visited Tampa Bay last week, but left without a contract. Reports from ESPN have the veteran as a top target in the upcoming weeks and if signed before the NFL Draft, it will allow this franchise to use its picks for other areas of need.
With the departure of Vince Wilfork, several mocks have the coach adding a defensive tackle with his first round pick. Walterfootball has Florida State product Eddie Goldman as the top target, but rumors have persisted that New England could grab Georgia running back Todd Gurley, a move that would help Tom Brady, but only if depth is add to the offensive line.
The loss of Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner is huge and leaves a big hole in the secondary. With four selections in the first three rounds, adding some young talent is imperative, but the team is still searching for a veteran to help in the short-term and Tarell Brown is a solid option.
Despite Brady’s age, this franchise continues to win football games and not always on the back of their star quarterback, but help is needed this off-season or next year we could see the NFL Playoffs without the New England Patriots.
