article imageNew England Patriots Rumors: Top free agent wide receiver options

By Larry Seely     Feb 9, 2014 in Sports
Boston - 2013 was another successful year for the New England Patriots, despite injury and off-field problems, but entering the 2014 NFL season with the wide receiving group in place isn't a good move and that has led to several rumors on possible signings.
Emanuel Sanders was signed to an offer sheet last year by New England, but Pittsburgh matched the offer and the 26 year-old remained with the Steelers.
After having a career year this past season, rumors have started again that the former third round draft pick could be headed to New England as the Patriots look to upgrade the wide receiver position and once again stake claim to the best team in the AFC.
The injury to tight end Rob Gronkowski played a big role in the team not advancing into the Super Bowl, but the lack of a vertical passing attack was once again was a big reason for their loss in the AFC Championship to Denver.
Sanders would not only bring a speed threat to the Patriots, he would also give quarterback Tom Brady another experienced play maker. Dropped passes and wrong routes were prevalent in the 2013 season for New England, but adding a player with big game experience and the in and outs of the NFL would be a great help and perhaps the move that brings the Vince Lombardi Trophy back to the team and its fans.
