College Football Rankings: Top 25 shakeup after Bama, USC upsets

‘Bama’s loss has all shaken things up in the SEC, especially with LSU looking dominate against Auburn and with three teams inside the top-10 of the latest coaches poll, the conference is looking solid to have another school represented in the playoffs at seasons end.

Ohio State is still holding the top spot in both the coaches poll and the latest rankings from Bleacher Report, this despite a close call at home against Northern Illinois. The Buckeyes offense was less than impressive Saturday afternoon, but until Urban Meyer’s squad loses, its hard to believe they will drop from number one.

After the top spot, things get interesting as TCU, Michigan State, Mississippi, and Baylor are all ranked between second and fifth, depending on what poll is looked at, but after just three weeks of play, changes will occur before the coalition get together to solidify the four programs that will move on in January.

Georgia made a statement with a big win over South Carolina, moving the Bulldogs to number six in the coaches poll. Notre Dame had a solid performance against a good Georgia Tech squad, despite playing with a backup quarterback. The Irish are eighth with the coaches, but moved to sixth with Bleacher Report, a statement that this team could make some noise before the NCAA football season is over.

Florida State at seven, LSU at nine, and Clemson round out the top-10 and for the moment, these schools hold the advantage for playing the big games at the end of the season.

One program knocking on the door is Texas Tech as the Red Raiders are 3-0 and just outside the college football rankings, but with a big game in week 4 against TCU, it could be another game that shakes things up and makes headlines next Saturday.
