NBA Trade Rumors: Taj Gibson to Toronto Raptors?

Several rumors have hit social media over the weekend on potential moves general manager Masai Ujiri could make to help, but a closer look at the team’s salary cap situation and adding a big name free agent is unlikely.

With DeRozan getting a max contract — he will receive $15.525 million next season — that leaves management with just over $5 million in salary cap room. That’s not exactly the type of money that would attract a player like Pau Gasol, but that doesn’t mean the front office is done this summer.

This team showed in the playoffs their lack of depth in the paint and despite a superb effort from youngster Bismack Biyombo, who just signed a four-year deal with Orlando, adding two youngsters in the NBA Draft isn’t the answer, especially if they want a return trip to the Eastern Conference Finals and a shot at winning a title.

Plenty of speculation has circulated regarding the franchise and what they could do and the move that makes the most sense is a trade with Chicago for veteran Taj Gibson.

The 31-year-old does all the little things that help a team. His hustle on both ends of the floor are undeniable and his leadership on and off the court are immeasurable.

The former first round pick was on the trading block last season and many believed the Toronto Raptors were his most likely landing spot. With the Bulls’ need for depth in the back court, the two sides could come together and make something happen, giving both sides something they need and want heading into next season.
