Celtics general manager Danny Ainge is known for making roster changes. Deals that send Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett out of town a couple years back have reaped rewards as the team has upwards of seven picks in this years Draft, a number that could give the front office some leverage when trying to make a move this week.
The latest rumors have Kevin Love as the main target. Boston lacks some depth in the front court and could use more help on the glass. This deal would have Love coming to “Bean Town,” but he isn’t the only star player that would have a change of scenery.
This blockbuster trade would have Carmelo Anthony moving to Cleveland and the NY Knicks acquiring big man Timofey Mozgov, giving each team a player that could help improve positions in the Eastern Conference and possibly draft picks to help build for future success.
The main player is Love, as Boston went on a hot streak just before the NBA All Star game, winning eight of 10 games and jumping to third place in the East. Adding a player that could strengthen a weakness could make this squad one to watch over the next couple of months and a squad no other team would want to battle, especially on the road come playoff time.
What’s intriguing is Anthony moving from the Knicks. This trade would give the veteran his best chance in years at winning a title, but also give New York a player and draft picks to rebuild. This franchise hasn’t had much success lately and while trading away their best player seems harsh, just look what it did for Boston.
