The Washington Wizards have turned the corner as an NBA franchise and now are in the hunt for a spot in the Eastern Conference Playoffs, but the franchise is still lacking a powerful presence in the paint.
Alex Kennedy has reported that the team is looking to make a trade and rumors have Greg Monroe of the Detroit Pistons as the player they covet.
The 23 year-old is averaging over 14 points and nearly nine rebounds per game, but with the Pistons having another young center in Andre Drummond on the roster, making a trade now for other needs makes sense.
Monroe would become an immediate impact player with Washington and a youngster they can continue to build the franchise around. The Wizards are right in the middle of the NBA Playoffs race and still have hopes of hosting a first round series, something that could happen if this deal took place.
Detroit is not having the year they hoped, but picking up some help in their back court or acquiring draft choices in a year with a very deep talent pool, could help the Pistons get on track and become the force they had hoped in the East, but one thing is clear, Monroe is on the trading block and the team that offers the best package will get a player that could turn a team around.
