Toronto Raptors Rumors: Latest news and buzz surrounding team

Basketball Insiders has reported that a possible trade of guard DeMar DeRozan is fiction and that fans on social media are driving the reports of a possible deal. The team will need his scoring to keep pace with last year’s success and that alone makes a trade highly unlikely.

Rant Sports has reported Denver is set to release young forward Kostas Papanikolaou and his $4.7 million contract and rumors have already started on the Raptors picking up the 25-year-old for the 2015-16 NBA season.

Despite limited playing time as a rookie, the 6’8″ forward averaged over four points, nearly three rebounds, and a surprising two assists per game. Papanikolaou did struggle with his outside shot, hitting just 35 percent from the floor, but he has shown in International competitions that he has a good touch from 15 feet and beyond and could help Toronto as a low-cost option in the upcoming basketball year.

Reports from Cleveland have power forward Tristan Thompson upset with contract talks with the Cavs and that has led to speculation that he could take his game north of the border. The 24-year-old has told reporters he would welcome a return to his hometown, but for now it seems money is the only objective and a return to Cleveland for at least another year is likely, but stranger things have happened in the NBA and Toronto would be a much improved squad if they could land the young forward.

The front office has done a good job with roster moves this summer, especially adding a couple good defensive minded players, but this team still needs help in the paint to become a force in the Eastern Conference and a search to find that help will continue for the next few weeks.
