NBA Rumors: Pau Gasol to San Antonio Spurs?

Tim Duncan is 40 years of age and his playing time has decreased dramatically over the last few years. No news of retirement after this season has been reported, but it figures if this team wins another title, he could ride out of town knowing there is nothing more he could have done in the game.

Even if he decides to stay, a bench role could be his and the teams best option moving forward and that would mean the front office would need to add a center over the summer.

Rumors have already started that Bulls big man Pau Gasol could be the target. The Spaniard nearly signed with the Texas team two years ago, instead choosing Chicago, but injuries and off court issues with the team have clearly made that a wrong decision.

Marc Gasol has told reporters that his brother could play with the Spurs, a move that could take place after July 1, when the NBA free agent signing period begins.

San Antonio has preferred experience to youth, one look at the roster and that statement is clear. The 35-year-old would be a great fit, having averaged 16.5 points and 11 rebounds this past season and 18 points and 9.5 rebounds per game for his career.

With Kevin Durant likely done in Oklahoma City, San Antonio must keep pace with Golden State and despite his age, adding the former first round pick would add some terrific depth to the front court and give the Spurs another playoff experienced player, a key to keeping pace with the Warriors and the only chance this team has of winning another title before their core group of veterans retire from the game.
