article imageNBA Rumors: LA Lakers set to release Steve Nash?

By Larry Seely     Mar 1, 2014 in Sports
Los Angeles - The LA Lakers are in the midst of one of the worst years in franchise history, but changes could be coming soon, especially for a few veterans on the team.
Several reports have hit social media this week of a potential move to release veteran point guard Steve Nash once the NBA regular season is finished.
A new rule from the last CBA allows a team to release a player, but pay his contract over a three year period, freeing up salary cap space, something the LA Lakers need to begin rebuilding.
The 40-year-old has struggled with his play and injuries since arriving in Southern California and expressed himself that he could see the front office using the 'Stretch' clause to let the veteran walk away from the Purple and Gold.
With a deep group of free agent talent and rumors of the team having interest in Minnesota Timberwolves Kevin Love, General Manager Mitch Kupchak will need money to make the roster changes necessary to get this team back as one of the top teams in the NBA and unfortunately it could mean the end of Nash in the league.
