article imageNBA Rumors: Kevin Durant to Golden State Warriors?

By Larry Seely     Jun 22, 2016 in Sports
San Francisco - Golden State came just one game away from being mentioned as the greatest team in NBA history, but with the season now complete, winning a title next year could depend on adding another piece to the puzzle.
It's no secret the front office has had Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant on their radar for the last few months, but prying away the All Star forward could prove difficult and costly. The 27-year-old is the most sought after free agent this summer, but his ties to the city and the Thunder making a run to the Western Conference Finals are leading many experts to believe he could stay put.
The Warriors have the best back court duo in the league and despite some depth issues in the front court, a solid overall group of talent, but adding a forward with the credentials of the former first round draft pick would make this the team to beat next year, no matter what LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers do this summer.
Adding Durant would make this perhaps the strongest team ever on paper and with some time together, perhaps the great team ever on the court. Golden State already showed what its capable of over the course of the 2015-16 NBA regular season, add an All Star small forward with the skill set of the former Texas star and two titles in three years is a strong possibility.
Rumors started to hit social media on Wednesday of another possibility, Dirk Nowitzki. The Dallas Mavericks veteran has opted-out of his contract and is now a free agent, not entirely unexpected, but it does open the door for his leaving the Mavs' to pursue winning a championship.
The 38-year-old can still score, he averaged just over 18 points per game this past season and his leadership on the court can't be questioned. The veteran has a shorter window of opportunity with his age, but a terrific option for the Warriors if they can't land the star player they want this summer.
