article imageNBA Power Rankings: Rockets flying high with Smith on board

By Larry Seely     Dec 27, 2014 in Sports
Houston might not have the best record in the NBA, but the Rockets ha a great Christmas with the addition of Josh Smith and Corey Brewer, making this franchise tops in the league in the latest power rankings.
Smith was the biggest addition as the former All-Star is now teamed with friend Dwight Howard, possibly making this squad one of the deepest and possibly the best offensive teams in the league.
Houston is already 21-7 on the year, just two games behind Golden State, the added fire power, along with the second ranked defense in the league now makes this franchise very dangerous heading into the new year.
The Warriors are ranked second and some could argue the best basketball team in the league. With the best home record at 10-1, Golden State could prove tough if they win home court advantage in the playoffs.
Portland is another Western Conference team that could challenge for the top spot by seasons end. The Trail Blazers are being led by point guard Damian Lillard and LaMarcus Aldridge and with both All-Stars having great years, the fans in the Pacific Northwest could be in for a big treat when June rolls around.
One of the biggest disappointments of the early part of the NBA season is in Los Angeles and no it's not the Lakers. The Clippers were expected to challenge for the top spot in the west, but at 20-11 for the year, 'Lob City' is closer to the eighth seed then the top spot and that has basketball experts scratching their heads.
Toronto is the current top team in the East as the high flying Raptors are 23-7 and leading the league in scoring, averaging just over 108 points per game. With a 14-3 mark at home, continued strong play will make it tough for the rest of the east come playoff time and a trip north of the border.
