article imageNBA Power Rankings: Miami Heat start the season on fire

By Larry Seely     Nov 2, 2014 in Sports
Miami - After just one week of action, NBA experts are now looking at Miami as a force in the Eastern Conference as the Heat have started the season 3-0 and winning in convincing style, despite the loss of LeBron James to Cleveland over the summer.
While South Beach fans are in good spirits, Golden State top the NBA power rankings heading into week 2 as the Warriors are also 3-0 and winning by an average of over 15 points per game.
The fans of the Bay area are excited as the have the best back court duo in the league with Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry. The two youngsters are averaging over 57 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists per game between them and have Golden State leading the league in points scored, but this team is also playing terrific defense, allowing just 90 points per game, good for third overall in the NBA.
Another team in the west off to a solid start is Houston as the Rockets are 3-0, including two victories on the road. Houston is led by James Harden and Dwight Howard and after a disappointing finish to last season, it now looks like the team chemistry is much improved and this could be the team to watch as the season moves forward.
Despite most basketball experts predicting big things from teams in the Western Conference, injuries have hit Oklahoma City hard and that could open things up for a team like Memphis (3-0) or the LA Clippers (2-1) to grab home court advantage and make a deep run in the playoffs.
The Eastern Conference is definitely weaker, but James and Kevin Love to Cleveland and the return of Derrick Rose to Chicago could make things interesting. Both of these squads are in the top-10 of the latest power rankings and with a solid start to the season, it could create some momentum these teams can carry over the long season and make things difficult for the likes of Miami, Toronto, and New York for a top four spot in the conference by the end of the year.
