article imageNatWest T20 Blast 2014 squads & teams announced

By Zed Dav     May 16, 2014 in Sports
The first ever edition of the NatWest T20 Blast will be played from today onward in the UK and the teams squads for all the 18 counties have been announced.
This is a newly-formatted English T20 tournament, with the NatWest T20 Blast taking over from the previously branded Friends Life t20 competition. What's not changed is the number of teams that are participating in the tournament, with all the 18 counties taking part in this edition of the NatWest T20 Blast.
The squads for all the 18 counties has been named here, and will see some of the top players take part in the competition.
The 18 teams have been divided into two groups of nine each, with every side taking on six of the others in their group on a home and away basis. They will also play one other team at home and one team away to make it 14 games for all the sides.
According to the NatWest T20 Blast schedule for this season, 126 group games will be played over the next three months or so, with more than two-thirds of them to be featured on Friday evening, making it more viable for the ground audiences. More fans on the ground will make more excitement and also help the counties reduce the depth they find themselves in over the last few years.
At the end of the group stages of the competition, four teams from each group will make it to the quarter-finals. This will be a one-leg knock-out round, in which four teams will be further eliminated and four will make it to the Finals Day.
The Finals Day is a concept that's unique to the English t20 circuit where both the semi-finals and the final are played on the same day and this time, Edgbaston will host it on August 23.
Hampshire will kick-start the tournament as favourites according to some experts but in a tournament this long, it's never easy to predict how things will go. This is more so the case because even after an excellent run in the first round, it takes just one poor game in the knock-out stage to end one's the title-winning hopes.
