The biggest name of the two is shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, who reportedly is set to meet with his agent about his future with the Rockies.
Talks between the 30-year-old and his consultant led to trade rumors over the winter, but the veteran decided to stay with hopes of a winning season, but after the last two weeks of play, it now appears the All Star infielder has finally had enough of losing and could request a deal before the trade deadline.
Several MLB teams in both the American and National Leagues would have interest and the latest report from Sports Illustrated has suggested the NY Mets would be the best fit for the power hitting Tulowitzki.
New York has three solid pitching prospects they could use to help make this deal happen, including 2014 NL Rookie of the Year Jacob deGrom. The front office could also offer future draft choices, but that likely won’t fit the plans Colorado has in place to rebuild in quick fashion.
The Mets were looking not to add a big salary contract, but current shortstop Wilmer Flores has struggled at the plate and in the field, leading many to believe GM Sandy Alderson will need to make a move, especially with his team 20-13 and leading the NL East.
Colorado just needs a change and trading away their best player will land them several quality prospects. With teams like San Diego and Seattle also in the mix, the Rockies front office can let this play out for awhile to get the best deal for the franchise and with a bit of luck, a trade now could help the future of the organization and finally bring a winning baseball team to the Rockies.
