article imageMLB Trade Rumors: Jonathan Papelbon to Toronto Blue Jays?

By Larry Seely     Dec 27, 2014 in Sports
Toronto - With the start of spring training just around the corner, several MLB clubs are still looking to make some moves to their roster in hopes of making the post-season in 2015.
Toronto has already been busy this winter, but now news from Jon Heyman of CBS Sports indicates the front office for the Blue Jays are still looking to add a closer before the start of the regular season.
Rumors are that Philadelphia All-Star Jonathan Papelbon could be the target, especially with the Phillies effort to dump some big contracts and add some youth to their squad.
Reports have the Jays at looking to make a trade for as big name, but that could change if the right deal isn't found and with some quality talent still available through free agency, a player like Brian Wilson could be added if necessary.
Papelbon was terrific last year in Philly with 39 saves and a solid 2.04 ERA, but with the emergence of Tyler Clippard, the veteran reliever could become expendable. Toronto has several quality youngsters to use as trade bait and the push from ownership to make something happen, both of which could lead to a big deal sometime in the near future.
The 34-year-old has plenty of big game experience, something lacking on the Toronto roster and with 325 career saves, he could also help the younger players on the staff with some leadership in the clubhouse.
Toronto finished just five games out of post-season action last year and with the new additions to the team and possibly adding a player like Papelbon, fans of the team could have even more reasons for optimism as the 2015 MLB season approaches and this franchise looks to overtake Baltimore as the top baseball club in the AL East.
