The start of spring training is just around the corner, but the Toronto Blue jays are still searching for help in their starting rotation. With a couple big name free agents still available, the team is in limbo, but a trade could be the best option.
CBS Sports has reported that Toronto is one of several MLB teams still looking for pitching help. With Ervin Santana and Ubaldo Jiminez yet to sign, a bidding war could take place in the coming weeks, but for a team like the Blue jays, making a deal for a pitcher like Jeff Samardzija might be easier and less expensive.
The 29 year-old has won 17 games over the past two seasons with the struggling Chicago Cubs, but his recent salary demands have caused tension between he and the club and a trade could get some younger talent in the Windy City and the Blue jays the pitching help they need.
Toronto struggled on the mound last season and hopes of challenging for a spot in the MLB Playoffs were quickly dashed, but this squad has plenty of quality talent and with more help on the mound and a bit of luck with health, the Blue Jays could be the dark horse of the AL East and a team to watch during the 2014 season.
