article imageMLB Trade Rumors: Why Greg Holland would fit with Toronto

By Larry Seely     Dec 30, 2014 in Sports
One of the most active teams in baseball this winter has been the Toronto Blue Jays, but with the start of the MLB season just around the corner, rumors are flying on another move or two before the start of training camp.
Having a strong back end of the bullpen is a must and GM Alex Anthopoulos is trying to trade for an experienced closer. Reports have had several players on his radar, the latest being Kansas City Royals stopper Greg Holland.
The 29-year-old has been terrific over the past two years, saving over 90 games and becoming one of the game's best relievers, but money will have him moved as it's expected the former tenth round draft pick will demand $8 million or more when he signs a new deal.
Holland has over 380 strikeouts in just 275 innings pitched and with an impressive 1.31 ERA over the past two years and a career average of 2.19, his dominating stuff would help improve the Blue Jays chances of winning in 2015.
Kansas City has a number of good arms on their staff and a move now would allow the franchise to add another bat and possibly a couple young prospects. Toronto has the money to spend and some good young talent to use as trade bait, making this a win-win situation for both organizations.
Toronto has also shown interest in Tyler Clippard, but his lack of experience as a closer could be costly. The Blue Jays are in a win now situation and though Clippard would be a cheaper option, his closing ability is not that of Holland and it could cost this team a few wins over the course of a full MLB schedule.
The Blue Jays were in the race for a playoff spot for most of the 2014 season and with the upgrades made over the off-season, this franchise could make a run at the AL East crown in the upcoming year and possibly a World Series title.
